May 28, 2008

happy (belated) memorial day

I spent mine like any quintessential American: at the season start of my new swim club, navigating my way through crowds of suntanning people and swimming through icy cold waters (my friends and I were the only ones in the pool--ain't that pathetic?). The night before, my family held a BBQ for Mindy's birthday, like so many other families across the country were doing (although those parties prooooobably weren't for Mindy's birthday, haha). I mean, our next-door neighbors were having a may-jor pool party, our diagonal neighbors were having a huge bash, and we chilled at home with the family. All in all, it was a nice night, highlighted by our newly-acquired, ginormous backyard and patio, which housed all of us pretty well.
On another note, I've gotten the whole family interested in my fire hydrant chronicles project. My dad's become a pro at pulling the car up next to the curb while I roll down my window and fumble with my camera to get the perfect shot. I gotta say, it probably looks hiiiiilarious: a silver Canon PowerShot emerging from the car, the click of the shutter, and then the squeal of the tires as we drive away (just kidding. Daddy doesn't make the tires squeal...). But to an innocent bystander with no clue of my photographic adventure, it would look, well, stupid.
And he's also been on the lookout for new and interesting fire hydrants. I've got a whole slew of them coming up--look for a coupla posts later on!
