more on...artist of the week, tai!

So I choose my Artists of the Week with great...labor, shall we say, and this week's was no exception. I labored for hours as I was trying to fall asleep. I mean, really, these things keep me up at night! Seriously, it's like my brain won't fall into slumber without knowing I've made the right decision about my AOTW.
Back in 2005 when The Academy Is... was introduced (herein and hereafter The Academy Is... shall be referred to as TAI, thank you very much), I didn't really pay attention. I mean, I heard one of their songs, went "eh," and went along my business.
Then last year I was channel-surfing and found MTV Hits and my torrid love affair with TAI began (haha not really. Well, I do love them. But really their music. Grrr, I'm confusing myself. Okay. Backtrack). Their song, "We've Got a Big Mess On Our Hands," was just awesome. And the video is seriously cool too, haha with a surprising cameo by another fave artist (hint: they will be AOTW next week!). So then I bought the song on iTunes but none of their other songs. Best ninety-nine cents I ever spent.
So June comes and my friend Mar and I are going to the Honda Civic Tour headlined by Fall Out Boy. And then I realize--guess who's the opener??? Yes, that's right, TAI, along with like four other bands including AOTW alum Cobra Starship. So we manage to scamper into the venue just in time to hear their last song, "We've Got a Big Mess On Our Hands." And so thus I fell in love with TAI even more. They're awesome live!!! Okay, just to say how awesome they were live: I had seriously bad tummy pains that turned out to be something I had to be hospitalized for. And I still jumped up and down and screamed my heart out cuz, well, they were awesome.
So that's how I came to adore TAI. Channel-surfing and a not-so-surprising appearance at the Honda Civic Tour. For me I never seem to just find bands. I find them and rediscover them later.... Well, either way.
