changes and other things

I don't know about changes.

I mean, sometimes they're welcome. Right? Like...like getting a new haircut. (And sometimes even that's not welcome.) Or...or a new friend or something. Like the new school I'm going to next year. But other changes--like the new school I'm going to next year, or Grandpa dying, or my best friend moving far, far away--or other things, take your pick. The changes always seem to come when you're least prepared.

And sometimes the changes leave you a different person entirely.

That's the worst, when people change. Most of my friends have remained the same and I love them so so much, but some people have changed and when I look at them I just see the person I used to see--not the one that's in front of my eyes. Eh. Well. I'm not trying to be all morbid or whatever, I was just thinking about it. Change seems to be shoved in our faces lately, with Obama and all. Not that I don't like Obama. I do. Really. But the whole change thing seems to be a theme lately and I don't know if I like it.

quotes about change.

we all have big changes in our life that are more or less a second chance.

every beginning is a consequence--every beginning ends something.

--paul valery

all change is not growth, as all movement is not forward.

--ellen glasgow

when we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.

--victor frankl

all changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another.

and my favorite:

if nothing ever changed, there'd be no butterflies.
